HIPAA Administrative Simplification Compliance Deadlines

10/15/02 deadline to have submitted your extension form for the Electronic Health Care Transactions and Code Sets

10/16/02 Electronic Health Care Transactions and Code Sets - all covered entities who did not submit an compliance extension form on October 15th.

04/14/2003 - The Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information (Privacy Rule)
- full compliance by most covered entities (excludes small health plans).

04/16/2003 - Must have started testing no later than 4/16 for the Electronic Health Care Transactions and Code Sets - all covered entities.

10/16/2003 - Electronic Health Care Transactions and Code Sets – those who submitted extension request forms on or before 10/15/02, and small health plans - full compliance.

04/14/2004 - Privacy Rule - small health plans must now be compliant.

07/30/2004 - Employer Identifier Standard - all covered entities except small health plans.

08/01/2005 - Employer Identifier Standard - small health plans.
